Friars, Fairies and Famine
Step into a world where folklore meets history, as Cairde na Cille (Friends of the Churchyard) presents a unique cultural animation as part of the Belfast Mela Festival. “Friars, Fairies, and Famine” invites you on an unforgettable journey through Medieval and Victorian Belfast — blending ancient traditions, rituals, and superstitions with music, movement, and stories of sorrow and resilience.
This is no ordinary tour. Led by two charismatic guides who double as musical pied pipers, you’ll join a living procession through the evocative grounds of Friar’s Bush. Expect haunting melodies, theatrical moments, and an atmosphere thick with the echoes of the past — reimagining this sacred space as both a place of memory and celebration.
With touches of ancient hedonism, tragic beauty, and shared humour, this immersive event brings the rituals of remembrance to life. Tickets are limited, so book now to be part of this rare and magical experience.
