Ulster Weaving at Mela 2010 Craft Village
This year at the Belfast Mela there will be an opportunity to create a hand woven wall hanging that will unite the stereotypical colors of Northern Ireland together. :Local hand weaver Judith Cassidy will be there to encourage and teach the craft /art of hand weaving which has become a forgotten craft. The weaving industry in Ni used to be thriving, Judith is trying to revive this excitement and interest in weaving but using new modern designs and yarns. At the Mela Judith will supply yarns and strips of recycled fabric to weave with allowing a chance for everyone to take part.
